One of my top priorities as a council member would be supporting our youth and our school district in every way possible. I'm a mom with two kids in Nixa Public Schools, and I'm also a dedicated advocate for all youth, especially kids who are marginalized.
Our kids' mental and emotional health is a topic of concern for everyone lately, and bullying in schools and online is a huge problem. I'm as concerned about these problems as any other parent in Nixa, and my heart breaks for any child who is struggling.
As a council member, I would make it a top priority to act as a liaison between the council and the school board and administration. Because of my advocacy work, I already have working relationships with members of both the administration and school board, and will use those relationships to keep an open line of communication between the council and the school district, so that the city can be proactively aware of how it can best support the district and our kids.
And as always, I would be very receptive to any concerns that a parent would want to bring to me or the council, and would welcome communication from parents. I'm here to help!
