One of the items on my platform is encouraging volunteerism. This is something that's very important to me! I volunteer in various ways, but one thing that I'm extremely passionate about is blood donation. Donating blood only takes an hour (at the most!) of your time, and costs nothing!

Did you know that while approximately 38% of Americans are eligible to donate blood, only about 3% actually do so? That is why there are constant blood shortages and outages. Experts estimate that if just 1% more people would start donating blood regularly, shortages would be a thing of the past - how wonderful would that be? Blood is this amazing, ubiquitous, renewable resource that we all have coursing through our veins, so let's put it to the best use we can, for the most people!

We Nixans are incredibly fortunate to have the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks right up the street from us at Campbell and Plainview. It's a beautiful facility, and all blood donated there stays right here in the Ozarks to help our neighbors in need of blood.

I have a dear friend whose mom is in the hospital right now, and my friend texted me the other day to thank me for being a donor. She said that so far, her mom had received over 30 pints of blood and over 20 units of plasma. She said that if it weren't for regular donors, her mom probably wouldn't be alive.

If you are interested in becoming a donor or have any questions about donating, please feel free to message me and I can help you get started! It's such an easy thing to do, and it's a wonderful feeling to know that each pint you donate can save multiple lives!
